Moissanite FAQ
Moissanite is a crystalline form of silicon carbide! While real moissanite is extremely rare, today synthetic moissanite, which has the exact same properties of natural moissanite, is a diamond simulant that is fast becoming popular with shoppers who love plenty of dazzling bling.
Moissanite is very cost-effective and choosing a moissanite engagement ring allows you to have the size and style of ring that you would like without breaking the bank. Moissanite is extremely durable and engagement rings will not lose any of their beauty or sparkle over time. Another reason to pick a moissanite engagement ring rather than a diamond engagement ring is that moissanite is eco-friendly and ethical. Because it is made in a lab, you do not have to research the impact of mining on the local community and if there are any unethical labor practices.
Moissanite is almost as hard as a diamond, and moissanite has a higher hardness rating than many natural durable gemstones including ruby, sapphire, topaz and emerald gemstones. While moissanite has properties similar to a diamond, moissanite does not look exactly like a diamond. Moissanite has a higher dispersion and refractive index – and these values are responsible for the fire, flash and brilliance of a gemstone. Due to the increased dispersion and refractive index values, moissanite has a lot more shine and sparkle than the average diamond - somewhat like a mini disco ball. All moissanite stones are completely flawless, while only the rarest of diamonds are totally flawless.
A gem’s hardness and scratch resistance is measured by the Mohs Scale which gives each precious gem a mark out of ten. Diamonds are the most durable, with a score of 10. Moissanites are just behind that with a mark of 9.25, making it the second hardest and most durable gem. This means that it is extremely unlikely that your moissanite will be scratched.
In general, the colour, clarity and sparkle of a moissanite will never change over time. We guarantee that your moissanite stones purchased from us will retain their brilliance and fire for a lifetime.
Our Premium Moissanite is simply a lower-cost alternative for those customers who demand high quality but don't necessarily need a brand name.
Both stones made from the same material and cut to the highest standards. The visual difference between Premium moissanite and Forever One moissanite is almost indiscernible.
Forever One is made by US company Charles and Colvard and comes with a lifetime warranty and certificate of authenticity from them.
Premium moissanite comes with a lifetime warranty from AGI Design and guarantees that Moissanite will maintain its brilliance and fire as long as you own the stone.
Moissanite grading uses a color grading scale that is based upon the GIA diamond color grading scale. There are three grades of moissanite available today: colorless (D-E-F range), near-colorless (G-H-I range) and with faint hues of color (J-K range). We also provide natural coloured Champagne, Grey, Green and Aqua-Teal moissanite.
Most of my designs can be done with round, cushion, heart, marquise, octagon, oval, pear, princess, radiant and emerald cut.
You may clean moissanite the same way you would diamond or any other fine gemstone. As with any fine jewelry item, an ultrasonic cleaner can be used. However, it is best to be gentle with your valuable treasures. You can also clean your moissanite jewelry using a commercial (non-acid based) jewelry cleaner or with mild soap and water using a soft toothbrush.
Moissanite is an extremely stable material. It is durable, tough and highly resistant to scratching, abrasion, breaking and chipping. Its high heat tolerance makes moissanite very unlikely to experience damage during jewelry repair.
